Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is the best team size? After watching thousands of people play our game, we would have to say that 4 players are the optimal team size. Teams of two and three typically struggle a lot to complete everything successfully unless they are quite experienced escape room players.
-
Do I need to book or can I just turn up?Due to staffing and scheduling requirements you will need to book as we don’t accept walk ins. Check out our website for availability
-
How do I book a game?Booking is easy - just head to our booking page, select the date you would like to play and you will see which games are available. Please note: We are usually booked out a number of weeks in advance, particularly during peak times (weekends/evenings)
-
Can I change my team size?Yes, this is no problem as long as your group size is within the minimum and maximum for the game. You will need to pay for any additional team members before the start of your game.
-
Can I book multiple games for a large groupYes - you can use our booking page to see which games are available and book as many as you need. For larger event enquiries please email us at hello@curium.com.au
-
What is your cancellation policy? We understand that life sometimes doesn’t go to plan. Although there is no legal requirement to provide a refund for a ticketed event, as a gesture of goodwill, if you cancel via email up to 48 hours before your booking we will issue you a refund or voucher for the full price that you can use to reschedule your game for another day. Last-minute cancellations (less than 48 hours) and no-shows will not be eligible for a refund/reschedule.
-
Can I play with more than 6 people? No. Due to occupancy and fire safety regulations, our games are capped at 6 players and we are unable to make an exception. If you are a group larger than 6 you will need to split into 2 or more groups and book multiple games. We are able to start games 30 minutes apart, and have a post game bar area where you can enjoy a drink while you wait for the rest of your party.

What is the Curium Experience? The Curium Experience is an immersive experience set within the fictional world of the Curium Society. Similar to an escape room it is a team experience where you will need to work together and interact with your environment in creative ways to progress through the game. Our games are a fusion of high quality set, lighting and sound design, exciting and cohesive narratives all run by cutting edge technology. Where other escape rooms have a heavy emphasis on puzzles, locks and keys, we have chosen to focus on the game environment as a whole to create a much more interactive and dynamic environment with a heavy focus on puzzles and tasks which make sense within the game environment rather than puzzles just for the sake of them.
-
Who can play an escape room?Escape rooms are perfect for people looking to experience something new, who like a challenge and love working as a team.
-
Can I take my phone into the room?We STRONGLY recommend leaving your phone in your locker. We offer an immersive experience that will be diminished for you and your friends by mobile phone use. We think you can probably live without it for 60 minutes. That said, if you really want to take photos or video in our games you are allowed to - we just ask that you don't post any puzzle solutions, and don't use the flashlight on your phones (you will have enough light whenever you need it)
-
How physical are your games? We wanted to create adventures that featured physical components, so compared to most other escape rooms they are quite physical but you certainly don’t need to be a ninja warrior to attempt them. If you are comfortable with everyday actions such as climbing stairs or crawling 10 meters you will be fine. If you are pregnant there is no reason that you can't participate in our games. We would, however, strongly recommend that you bypass the final obstacle. You can find out the specific physical elements in the description of each of our missions which also details which elements are able to be bypassed. Please talk to staff before the game if you have any concerns.
-
I'm pregnant, can I still play?If you are otherwise healthy, there is no reason that you can't play. That said, there are some physical elements (includes spoilers) that you may choose to bypass. If you have any concerns, please talk to our friendly staff before the game.
-
Are your games wheelchair accessible?Extraction, our first game, is not wheelchair accessible or suitable for players with reduced mobility (You must be able to use stairs), but we are currently working on our second game which will be. We hope to be ready to open this game at the end of 2023.
-
Am I locked in?No. Safety is our number one priority and all of our games have dedicated fire/emergency exit doors which can be used to exit the game at any time.
-
How safe are your games?Safety is our number one priority and has been a huge part of our design and build process from day one. All of our rooms have an exit door which can be used in an emergency and are also equipped with emergency lighting in case of power failure. All props and puzzles have been been designed and built to operate safely and minimise the risk of injury. In case of any unforeseen injuries, at least one staff member on site is trained in first aid.
-
How small are your rooms? Are they Claustrophobic? Our game rooms are generally about the size of a normal office or bedroom. There are, however, transitional elements which are smaller, for example a tunnel that is 1m wide by 1 m tall. These transitional elements can be bypassed if they present too difficult an emotional, or physical challenge. Talk to our staff if you think this might be an issue.
-
Do you have lockers?Yes, we have lockable lockers for handbags, small backpacks, jackets etc.
-
What is the age limit? The minimum age to play our games is 14. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied during the game by at least 2 responsible adults.
-
Do you serve food or drinks? After the game, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a drink and a snack in our licensed post-game lounge. We have a range or packaged drinks including softdrinks, beers and pre-mixed drinks. There are also a number of great pubs and restaurants a short walk away which we can recommend: Prince Patrick Hotel Carringbush Hotel (great local pub with a vegetarian menu) Le bon ton (yummy southern BBQ and great pub vibe) Stomping ground Brewery and Beer hall (huge selection of beers and a great indoor beer garden) Victoria St Smith St
-
What happens if I am late?Similar to a live performance, lateness may result in your game being cancelled. We understand that people run late due to unforeseen circumstances so please let us know asap if you are running late and our team leader will do their best to come up with a solution. Any games cancelled due to lateness will not be eligible for a refund.
