The Curium Experience
Frequently Asked Questions
The Curium Experience's escape rooms feature a variety of exciting physical challenges designed to increase the sense of adventure and immersion. Although our games are more physical that most Escape Rooms, you certainly don't need to be an athlete to participate... if you are comfortable with everyday actions such as climbing stairs or crawling 10 meters you will be fine.
If you have an injury, particularly knees or back, please check out our detailed list of physical elements (https://www.curium.com.au/physicalelements)(spoiler alert) During the game any of the physical elements can be bypassed on a case by case basis except for stairs.
If you are pregnant there is no reason that you can't play the Escape Rooms at The Curium Experience. We would, however, strongly recommend that you bypass the final obstacle. Please talk to our friendly team when you arrive for your game if you have any questions or concerns.
If you are otherwise healthy, there is no reason that you can't play at The Curium Experience while pregnant. That said, there are some physical elements (https://www.curium.com.au/physicalelements)(includes spoilers) that you may choose to bypass. If you have any concerns, please talk to our friendly staff before the game.
Extraction, our first game, is not wheelchair accessible or suitable for players with reduced mobility (You must be able to use stairs), but we are currently working on our second game which will be. We hope to be ready to open this game in early 2026
At The Curium Experience, safety is our number one priority and is a huge part of our design/build and operational processes. The safety features in our games include, but are not limited to:
• All rooms at the Curium Experience are equipped with smoke detectors, emergency lighting and dedicated, emergency exit door / push to exit button that can be used to exit the game at any time.
• All rooms, props, and game elements have been designed and built to the relevant industry standard in order to operate safely and minimize the risk of injury.
• Your game is overseen by a dedicated Game Master who is following your progress on CCTV, and who is able to assist in case of injury or emergency.
• In case of injury at least one staff member on duty is trained in first aid and able to assist.
The Curium Experience is an immersive experience designed for teams of 2 to 7 people. Similar to an escape room it is a team experience where you will need to work together and interact with your environment in creative ways to progress through the game. The Curium Experience's games are a fusion of high quality set, lighting and sound design, exciting and cohesive narratives all run by cutting edge technology. Where other escape rooms have a heavy emphasis on puzzles, locks and keys, we have chosen to focus on the game environment as a whole to create a much more interactive and dynamic environment with a focus on puzzles and tasks which make sense within the game environment rather than puzzles just for the sake of them.
The Curium Experience, like other escape rooms, is perfect for people looking to experience something new, who like a challenge and love working as a team. While some escape rooms are more cerebral, we have opted for a more moderate difficulty with a variety of puzzles and tasks to appeal to different ways of thinking.
With the emphasis on teamwork and communication, The Curium Experience is a popular choice for Corporate Team Building (https://www.curium.com.au/teambuilding)groups who are looking for an outing that is both fun, and helpful for improving team communication and problem solving.
We are also a popular choice for Birthday Parties and Bucks/Hens groups.
The Curium Experience is one of the only escape rooms in Melbourne that let you take phones into the game. We are more than happy for you to take photos or videos during the game either for your private use, or uploading to social media. If you do post publicly, we'd love it if you tagged us @thecuriumexperience (Insta/Tiktok/FB)
If you would prefer to spend an hour being immersed without the interruptions of your phone, we have secure lockers onsite for you to store them and any other valuables.

No, you are never locked in an escape room at The Curium Experience. Safety is our number one priority and all of our games have dedicated emergency exit doors which can be used by players to exit the game at any time for any reason. In case of a power outage or an evacuation, doors will open automatically, allowing for swift evacuation.
The Escape Rooms at The Curium Experience are designed for groups of up to 6 and each room is generally about the size of a normal office or bedroom. There are, however, transitional elements in the game which are smaller, for example a tunnel that is 1m wide by 1 m tall. These transitional elements, however, can be bypassed if they present too difficult an emotional, or physical challenge. Please talk to our friendly staff before the game if you think this might be an issue.
The escape rooms at The Curium Experience take between 50 and 70 minutes to complete, however, when including a pre-game briefing, post-game team photo and debriefing, you should plan to be here for around 90 minutes. Your game will finish up in our post-game Recovery Lounge, where you can relax with a drink (alcoholic and soft drinks available) and have a chat about your game.
At The Curium Experience you are welcome to change your team size after you have made your booking as long as your group size is within the minimum (2) and maximum (7) for the game. We will happily refund the difference if players drop out, whereas if you have extra players you can pay for them when you arrive.
At The Curium Experience, we understand that life sometimes doesn’t go to plan. Although there is no legal requirement to provide a refund for a ticketed event, as a gesture of goodwill, if you cancel via email (hello@curium.com.au)more than 48 hours before your booking we will issue you a voucher for the full price that you can use to reschedule your game for another day.
Last-minute cancellations (less than 48 hours) and no-shows will not be eligible for a refund/reschedule.
Although we don't recommend it for experienced players, we are able to make an exception and allow teams of 7 in our escape rooms. To do this, please book a game of 6 and reply to the confirmation email to let us know that you will be a party of 7. An fee of $49 for the additional player can be paid on arrival.
Due to occupancy and fire safety regulations, 7 players is our hard maximum and we are unable to make an exception. If you are a group larger than 7 you will need to split into 2 or more groups and book multiple games. We are able to start games 30 minutes apart, and have a post game bar area where you can enjoy a drink while you wait for the rest of your party. Check out our team building page for more information about group bookings (https://www.curium.com.au/teambuilding)
After watching thousands of teams play at The Curium Experience over the past 3 years, we can confidently say that 4 players is the optimal team size.
Teams of two often struggle to split up and complete all the puzzles in time, as there are quite a few puzzles that can be completed at the same time. Groups of 6, especially if they are experienced escape room players, may find that there is less to do for each person. Groups of 4 hit the sweet spot of having enough people searching, solving puzzles, and collaborating that they are able to complete the game, without having too many people which can result in moments where some team members haven't got enough to do.
If you have more than 7 players you will need to split into multiple groups. Although all groups can't start at the same time, we can run each game starting 30 minutes apart eg 1pm, 13:0pm, 2pm. Have a look at our Team Building page for more information. (https://www.curium.com.au/teambuilding)

The games at The Curium Experience are designed for adults and groups of young children are generally not capable of solving the puzzles successfully.
Baby in Carrier: If you have an infant in a sling/front carrier you are welcome to play with them, and in our experience, the majority of the physical elements in the game will be able to be completed - The only exception being the final obstacle - Please check out the list of physical elements for more information (https://www.curium.com.au/physicalelements)
Children under 8: Not allowed
Children aged 8-16: May play as long as they are accompanied in the game by at least 2 responsible adults
Children aged 16+: May play independently and don't required adult supervision in game.
The Curium Experience has secure lockers available in Reception for handbags, backpacks, jackets, phones and other valuables.
After your game at The Curium Experience, you will have the opportunity to relax with your friends and debrief in our licensed post-game "Recovery lounge" where we have a range of packaged drinks including soft-drink, beer and pre-mixed drinks along with a limited range of snacks.
Similar to any many other appointment based businesses, significant lateness from one group has a knock on effect on other groups for the rest of the day. For this reason, if you are more than 5 minutes late we may need to reduce your game time, and if you are more than 20 minutes late, your booking may be cancelled.
We understand that people run late due to unforeseen circumstances so please let us know asap if you are running late and our helpful team will do their best to come up with a solution if possible. Any games cancelled due to lateness will not be eligible for a refund or reschedule.
